Revision — Lesson 1
Before we start, let's check what you remember from last time. Match each English chunk to its Russian translation. Click an item on the left, then its match on the right.
Context & Why This Matters
Most international teams start the day with a short stand-up call — 5 to 15 minutes where each person gives a quick update. As a recruiter working with expats, you'll do this every single day. Getting comfortable with these phrases means you'll never be caught off-guard on a Monday morning call.
You need to cover three things: what you did yesterday, what you're doing today, and whether you're blocked or need anything. This lesson gives you the exact chunks to do that.
Chunks · Lexical Approach
In the lexical approach, we don't memorise single words — we memorise ready-made phrases (chunks) that you can drop straight into conversation. Learn these as complete units. Click each card to see the meaning and an example.
★ reach out — from Lesson 1!
★ onboarding — from Lesson 1!
Fill in the Blanks
Complete each sentence with ONE word from today's chunks. The missing word is always the key word in the phrase. Check your answers below.
Speaking Task
Practice these stand-up updates out loud. Each answer should be 3–5 sentences. Use the chunks from today's lesson.
Dialogue Example
Read this stand-up call. Nagima's lines use today's chunks (highlighted). Try reading her lines out loud without looking at the hints.
Homework · 2 Tasks
Write Your Own Stand-up Script
Write a 5–7 sentence stand-up update as if it's tomorrow morning. Use at least 5 chunks from today's lesson and at least 1 chunk from Lesson 1 (e.g. "I liaise with...", "based in", "reach out"). Make it realistic — use real tasks from your actual job if possible. Send the written version to your teacher.
⏱ ~10 minChunk Flashcard Practice
Add today's Quizlet list to your deck from Lesson 1. Study both decks together — mix old and new. Then pick 3 chunks from today and write a new example sentence for each one using a situation from your own work. This trains your brain to own the chunks, not just recognise them.
⏱ ~15 minQuizlet List · Copy & Paste
Add these to your Quizlet deck from Lesson 1. Learn chunks as complete units — not word by word.
